Guru Maps - Offline Navigation App Reviews

The best trekking app ever!

This is the nicest and most friendly trekking app I know. Well thought-pver design, great features, amazing usability.

Very good offline maps app

Very good app for outdoor activities and "manual" car navigation. Nice detailed offline maps, whole world divided into downloadable chunks per country/state/etc. Premium features also worth the price.

processo lento

I think that the method of saving available isnt clear. It would be more practical to specify the coordinates or an exact location, set the maximum zoom level for offline browsing, choose the map type and, once advised of the expected size of the package, proceed to the download.

great feature for importing maps from pc and use them offline - READ HOW TO

This app has a rare and great feature, using mobile atlas creator (freely available for every platform) you can download from pc any kind of map from several map sources on the internet and import them in your iphone, where they work flawlessly, offline of course. You must buy the addon for that (1.59e / 1.99$). I feel sorry for the people who criticized this app and couldnt understand the feature that makes this small application unique. Check out the official web site of the app to understand how to easily do the map downloading and to transfer the map to the iphone, its very easy. Update to 1.9.2 - i think charging for every small feature is a little too much, this app has this good feature for offline maps but its poor regarding other features that you can find in every other app, if the trend for this app is to charge for every small feature, i guess im going to jump ship

The best one!

The best one for bike ride. The only feature i miss from ridewithgps is the elevation graph.

La migliore per lunghi viaggi in bici

Perfetta sotto tutti i punti di vista. Le manca solo il grafico dellaltimetria per le tracce. Perfect in every aspect for long bike travel. The only feature I miss from inRoute or other app is the elevation graph for the tracks.

What happened to my offline Topo maps?

I had previously paid for the offline Topo maps and now they arent available at all in this newest version 3.4? This was the only reason I used Galileo and now all the utility is lost for me. What gives?

saved my butt!

Went to Ecuador and had to find a house in Ambato -- downloaded the map and voila!

Very well done and useful

While I am not a digital map expert, this is going to be very useful for hikes, urban exploration, and sharing information. And practical as well. The documentation is excellent, especially for a non-map person like me- and the developer was very responsive to a couple of technical questions I had. This review is really for the pro version. I did the in-app $3.99 purchase right away, which yields the same capability as simply buying the $3.99 pro version. This is really a review for the pro-vets

Great app

I love this app. Ive used it for motorcycle navigation and hiking. It couldnt be easier to import a route and the map download sizes are much smaller than other apps. And now you can view Google maps in the app with a data connection. Buy this now.

Great App!

This is my favorite GPS app. I use it to log my bike rides and hikes, then upload to MapMyRun. I also use it to keep track of my flights-I travel a lot for work. Finally, I use it as a volunteer for my local land trust-the boundaries have been converted to GPX files, so I can easily find the borders of our properties to check for encroachment. Easily worth the price. It keeps getting better, too! Now you can pause and restart a recording (like when you stop on a bike ride for a break).

Great for offline, one thing missing

This has been my go-to app while living abroad. Im able to mark places so that I can remember where to go in each city.

July update

Have been very happy with the quality of maps, especially offline availability. The new update will not open on my iPad. Im sure the problem will be addressed soon.

Bug in new update

The app was working like a charm until the very last update. Now when I open the setting menu inside the app half of the screen becomes black and it takes some time to go back to normal. By the way, I have iPad Pro 9.7. Please fix this. Otherwise the app is excellent.

Fast Vector Maps and Offline!

Great offline map viewer with excellent search function. The best feature is that it uses vector maps which load and scan extremely fast. Why using pixelated tiles when there vector maps out there?! The makers of Galileo have clearly seen the great advantage of this low-footprint technology at a very early stage of the app development. Importing trails for cycling works like a charm. No complains from my side.

Update is again download

Application is very good working itself. But after the app. each update you have to download full map again as the name of update. It causes lost time and if you downloaded many maps, you use internet just for this app. So it is boring to keep update.

Maps

The Best!!!!!!

Dont update

This is my daily go to app for more than a year until today. I did the update from 3.4.7 to the new 3.4.9 and now the app will not even open How do I roll back my update?

Awesome for off-grid or international travel

Galileo Maps is my go-to app when Im traveling abroad and either have no data plan for the country Im in, or (if theres a partner carrier--decently common for my plan) when the data is slow. Since theyve added Vector maps, preloading a country or states maps has been a breeze. Its similarly useful if I travel somewhere off-grid, such as trips through wilderness areas or national parks. I did pay to unlock all the features, and one of those was GPS recording--so not only is the app useful when Im somewhere remote, but when I am remote, Im probably hiking/trekking, so its doubly useful in such situations. The app isnt perfect: it either doesnt do directions, or doesnt do them very well, as I havent noticed any such feature. Finding locations or points of interest via the search isnt as effective as either Apple or Google maps searches. The GPS recording has significant issues (on my 6S plus) with "jitter" where itll sudden record a point where Im a half mile away and the next point will be accurate. This magically adds a mile to distance-traveled that didnt really happen. This doesnt always happen, and in the past, seemed to happen less, but its frequent enough to ruin distance measurements for many treks. Im not sure what made it worse recently. Maybe it was upgrading from 5S to 6S? Or maybe a software change..I have no way to know. I suspect its more of a problem in urban areas where the phone relies both on GPS and wifi for triangulation. My only other complaint is that pre-loading a phone with raster maps (largely unnecessary now, since they have the very easy to acquire vector ones) is a little challenging. You can either do it within the app by simply moving and zooming the app around--it just caches the data. Of using a desktop Java app to make a bundle. Sadly, that desktop app has a horrid UI, which almost seems like a "protest-UI"--determined not to emulate any other map app UIs. In any case, this app is tremendously useful in the right situations. Its kept my phone from becoming an electronic brick when I leave coverage areas. I could certainly imagine wilderness situations where it could be a lifesaving tool, if the user had the foresight to preload their state/countrys map.

Amazing

This has been my go to app for close to two years. Ive used it in Major cities in the U.S. and the jungle villages of Central and South America. It is flawless. Recently I had an issue with an update crashing. Sent a note to customer service and received a response within hours. A fix ( update ) followed within a day. This on over the labor day weekend . Ive never seen such quality service. This App rocks and the service is beyond stellar. Thanks Evgen
