Ive been using it for years and it just keeps getting better!!! They are constantly updating it! Lots of updates, they are on the ball. Constantly updating the app AND updating the downloadable free maps. It has small DETAILED downloadable maps that you can access fast, require no data (other than when you download them) and uses less power (no data means less power). Be sure to download your maps in advance of your trip so you don’t eat up your power or data. This is not ANYTHING like what the program would do the first few years that it was out, this is an AWESOME FREE improvement. This app works SO DIFFERENT now, YOU NEED TO IGNORE REVIEWS OLDER THAN A YEAR. If you download AND select vector maps in advance, you will not use data with this app. This feature costs nothing. It’s great to have a map that does not require data downloads or a signal. I travel to Costa Rica often and it’s a must have app. Please understand what this app does. It’s a digital MAP, not a GPS, the map will show you where you are, not route you (just like a big paper map, but with a magic dot where you are). If you download the vector maps (and have the settings set for vector maps) it does not need any data (I use this on an iPad with no data plan and it works great!). These are vector maps: small detailed scaleable maps. These are easily downloadable from the app itself. This means with a quick download (size varies on state/country) I have all the details do the the city street and many landmarks. Here’s the important part: if I’m in an area of Michigan with no cell coverage I can still view my map because I already downloaded the whole thing! (You MUST leave your settings on “vector", or it will try to download maps for whatever setting you are set at!) This is one of the first apps I install on people’s iPhones for them. It’s great to have a map that does not require data downloads or a signal. I travel to Costa Rica often and it’s a must have app. They recently added vector maps: small detailed scaleable maps. These are easily downloadable from the app itself (they are rolling this feature out, so you may not see every country yet). This means with a quick download (size varies depending on state/country) I have all the details do the the city street and many landmarks. Here’s the important part: if I’m in an area of Michigan with no cell coverage I can still view my map because I already downloaded the whole thing! (You MUST leave your settings on “vector", or it will try to download maps for whatever setting you are set at!) Please do not leave a bad review if does not do something you think it should do, read the description for what it says it does do! I say that because this is one of those apps with a huge number of 5 star review and 1 star reviews but most of those 1 star reviews are because the program is not supposed to do what they are complaining about, the reviewer didnt read the description. They added the vector feature close to a year ago, reviews from before then arent even accurate any more, the addition of the vector maps TOTALLY changes the way the program works (although all old features still work too). My old maps (created the hard way) still work great, but 99% of the time I’ll be using these new vector maps. Other EXCELLENT features require in app purchase (these features are free in pro version): Downloading other off-line maps (this is great and it why I purchased it in the first place) you can get maps from different sources and build them (on your desktop computer) and put them on the device for later. I downloaded great maps with heights of the hills/mountains for where I hike in Costa Rica, I don’t need to use international data roaming for this since I built them once and they stay on the device. You can also leave bookmarks in the app, incredibly useful for marking places that have no other frame of reference. You can have it record a path/trail for where you have been and view (or export) where you’ve been. When hiking, I think of it as bread crumbs. I miss the old app icon but I’m not going to ding the app any points for that! These folks listen to feedback so write them with suggestions, people complained about the alert notifications and they removed it (but the old reviews are still there). I’ve sent them country suggestions (was there a week or two later), font size suggestions, bug reports and more. They’re constantly updating the maps and they have WAY more maps available then back in early 2014 when they added downloadable maps to the app.
Just another happy customer. They do make you pay to place bookmarks, which are key for offline use.
Most usefull app
Galileo is great for traveling around where you wont have Cellular Data. You download the maps beforehand and they are there when you need them. The GPS shows you where you are all the time. Its super easy to create bookmarks and export them to others. This App is invaluable for foreign travel. Thank you for making my travel life a lot easier.
Such a useful and unobtrusive app. Great for traveling when datas not available. Doesnt waste battery power hanging out on GPS. WORTH EVERY PENNY!
I have been trying to figure out a way to use my iPad wi-Fi only in my van for GPS mapping. I purchased a Dual150A GPS Bluetooth receiver to use with my iPad Air . The GPS receiver connects to my iPad no problem now the tricky part finding a mapping program that doesnt take up gigabytes of data to cash the maps to the iPad like motion X for example their map blocks take gigabytes of data cashing for off-line use way too large. If youre lucky enough to come across this program of Galileo youve just hit the jackpot problem solved for cashing maps for off-line use. less than 30 MB for all of Illinois as an example and As you drive the map orientates itself to the direction youre driving in.
If youre a traveler, dont hesitate to download this. If you travel in less common places (not Europe and the States), this app comes in very handy. More accurate than google maps and tracks you wherever you go. Its all my friend and I used on our recent 3 month trek through the African continent.
Do you want to walk around with a super small map not able give you any kind of directions? Then this is the right tool for you! Otherwise it is completely useless as there is no functionality to get directions. Of course you can download trips from Google earth, but of course it is perfectly possible to plan everything perfectly in advance. Sorry, but I need to delete this useless tool.
This is my favorite GPS app. I use it to log my bike rides and hikes, then upload to MapMyRun. I also use it to keep track of my flights-I travel a lot for work. Finally, I use it as a volunteer for my land trust-the boundaries have been converted to GPX files, so I can easily find the borders of our properties to check for encroachment. Easily worth the price.
I am currently in China. Google maps cant function here ( Apple Maps provide wrong info ). So I use this app as free version and it is WOW!!! Really good app, no need internet connection ( I dont buy 3G simcard in China since i cant use Google services here) and this app give me the accurate location, accurate maps. I can find the metros stations easy by just looking at the apps map (if you travel by yourself, you will know how valuable is a good map ). I decided to give this app a review since it helped me so much. I also buy the pro features to support the creators. Good job and hope you can make it better !
Your new update dose not work properly and stop working while using. Also it could not update the new maps and hang during updating.
A great app with lots a really good free maps. I can sync it with my google maps. My only complaint is that you have to update the maps regularly.
Refund my money please.
I just went to the UK for two weeks and used this offline constantly. It helped me navigate wherever I was and was especially useful looking up footpaths in the countryside. Thanks for the great app!
The maps are greats and really work well, especially convenient if you dont have internet access while exploring a foreign city
Works great (and fast!) even on my iPhone 4
Now that we can sync info between devices it a shoe 5 stars app. Love it.
You have to agree to a 5 day Free Trial, then they charge you for the app.
One of the best open street map implementations with lots of nice features.
